Dear Susan.
Thank you for contacting the hospital helpline set up following the appalling revelations about pathology practice at Alder hey.
On behalf of those who work in the NHS, locally, may I apologise for any distress, which you have been caused as a result of news coverage about the situation at Alder Hey, and some other Pathology Departments.
Following your call to our helpline on the 31st January 2001regarding your daughter Joanne, enquires were made into your concerns. I write to confirm the outcome of those investigations given to you by telephone on 2nd February.
As explained, 28 tissue blocks and 28 microscope slides are held at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Tissue blocks and microscope slides are used for diagnostic purposes and involve only minute samples of tissue. They would have been retained for possible future re-examination or, on occasions, to assist in establishing familial illness links.
As discussed with you those items will be retained at the hospital.
You requested a copy of the post mortem report, this as been obtained and forwarded to your GP. Please contact Liverpool house surgery to make an appointment to discuss the report.
I hope that we have provided the information, which you required, but if we can be of any further assistance, please contact us.

I was really shocked when I seen the bad problems at Alder hey and very sad for those perants, but I would like to think one day my baby will help some other family in this devastating problem. And hope the slides they have will help.
